Inglaterra, finales del siglo XII. El país se encuentra dividido. El Rey Ricardo I, también conocido como Ricardo Corazón de León, está en Tierra Santa comandando la Tercera Cruzada contra las fuerzas de Saladino. Allí libra la guerra por la gloria de Dios y de Inglaterra. Sin embargo, mientras el conflicto continúa en el extranjero, una amenaza crece en el reino. Juan Sin Tierra, hijo menor de Enrique II y hermano pequeño de Ricardo, se sienta en el trono y gobierna como rey. Sus aliados, especialmente el Sheriff de Nottingham, están acabando con cualquier tipo de resistencia por todo el país y confabulando en contra de Ricardo. Sin embargo, los Alegres Compañeros, una banda de proscritos, desafían tamaña usurpación proclamando a Ricardo como legítimo Rey de Inglaterra y jurando lealtad hasta el final.

The Crusades have summoned Richard the Lionheart to the Middle East. Back home in England, John Lackland is trying to consolidate his power, recruiting the Sheriff of Nottingham to his side. Opposing them is Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. What will be left of Richard’s Kingdom when the Crusades are over?

In Richard the Lionheart, players ally themselves either with Robin Hood or John Lackland. They travel across England, trying to earn prestige points and influence the Crusades from afar. At the end of the game, Richard will return to what’s left of his kingdom…if he returns at all. At this time, the player who has earned the most prestige wins.
